When a Hong Kong nuclear plant goes into meltdown after its security is penetrated, Chinese army cybersecurity captain Chen Dawai (Leehom Wang, Lust, Caution) offers his old college roommate a deal: help identify and apprehend the culprit in exchange for his own freedom. What follows is a frenetic, globe-trotting race against time to avert disaster, fraught with hidden agendas and ever-shifting loyalties.

A neglected joy
When the director’s cut of Blackhat aired on TV in 2017 or so, I was afraid we’d never get a proper release of it; but, thankfully, here it is! The theatrical cut is fun, too; but the director’s cut turns this into one of Michael Mann’s most underrated movies; and I’m really glad that it’s been preserved. If you’re a Michael Mann fan and you haven’t given this one a chance yet, this release is the best way to do so.
