[In a hearing room, three investigators, two men and a woman, sit at the end of a T- shaped table, opposite a man, Nick Tellis. Two men in police uniform sit at another table close by.]
[The investigator in the middle addresses Tellis.] Investigator #1: Are you familiar with the Michael Calvess case? [Various shots in quick succession of photos of Calvess in police uniform and his case file.]
[Close-up on Calvess undercover, inside a tunnel, being beaten by two men. One fires a gun.] Tellis: He was murdered working undercover.
Tellis: Yes, I'm aware of that.
[Shots of Tellis at his office desk going through case files.] Investigator #2: We feel that your presence in this investigation would be invaluable.
[Tellis lays on a couch at his home, holding his baby son and being embraced by his wife Audrey.] Tellis: They got a dead cop and dead ends and they're reaching. [The Detroit skyline as Tellis contemplates it.]
[At a shooting range, a man fires five shots at the target's head. He's in the lane next to Tellis's. It's Henry Oak.]
[In a police office, Captain Mitchell Cheevers, talks to Tellis.] Cheevers: Lieutenant Oak, he and Calvess were close.
Cheevers: He was the first one in the tunnel that day, discovered the body.
[Oak stands in the rain outside a tunnel. He shouts indistinctly.]
[In a diner, Oak and Tellis sit at a table.] Oak: This is all politics. They didn't know him, they don't care about him, they can't forget about him fast enough.
[Back in the police office.] Cheevers: I like him.
[At an abandoned auto repair warehouse, Oak shoots at a red car.] Cheevers: But between you and me...

[Close-up on Oak holding a riffle, then closing the boot of a car.] Oak: Any hesitation I had about the job was gone.
[A caption reads, "Between Black + White", as the screen is split in four and shows various shots in quick succession of the movie.] Oak: The only thing you need to know about me, is that I'm gonna bag the mothers that killed Mike.
[Inside a house, Oak points a riffle and shoots it.] Oak: The police!
Oak: If that means breaking every point of procedure, then they're broke. [In the house, Tellis goes through the freezer.] Tellis laughs: Oh, bagels and guns.
[Oak addresses Octavio, a drug addict.] Oak: It's almost impossible you're this dumb.
[A caption reads, "Beyond Right + Wrong.]

[Tellis points a gun at a man, who runs out of a door.] Tellis: Do not move!
[In the abandoned auto repair warehouse, Oak and Tellis interrogate two Black men, Darnell and Latroy, who are tied up by their wrists to a chair, with their backs to each other.] Oak: This is a police issue revolver, and it belongs to a slain officer. What are you doing with it?
[Oak shows the tied men the revolver.] Latroy: That was not in there. You planted that. Oak: What'd you say? I planted it? Who planted that? Who planted that?
Tellis: Enough!
Darnell: Cos your partner Oak is dirty. [Oak punches Darnell.]
[Tellis sits in his office.] Tellis: I'm gonna get 'em. I'm gonna get the guys who did it.
[Flashbacks of Tellis running, and of Calvess undercover and Oak the night Calvess died.] Tellis: You were there before he died. Tell me that I'm wrong.
Oak: They shot him and ran!
Darnell: He's lying to you. [Tellis, enraged, pushes piles of paper on top of his desk onto the floor.]
Oak: You're messing with something you can't possibly understand.

A natural successor to the violent thrillers of the 70s, director Joe Carnahan's breakthrough Narc brings the genre screaming into a new era, setting the standard for the modern cop drama with its gritty, unrelenting tone and style.
In wintry Detroit, narcotics cop Nick Tellis (Jason Patric, The Lost Boys) is recovering from an undercover operation gone wrong. In the hopes of being assigned a quiet desk job, he agrees to return to active duty and partner up with Detective Henry Oak (Ray Liotta, Goodfellas) to investigate the apparent murder of Oak's former partner. As both men become lost in the depths of the case, boundaries become blurred, and their relationship begins to vacillate between intensely personal and unsettlingly suspicious.
One of the best crime films of the 21st century, Narc is back in an intense new filmmaker-approved 4K remaster, with brutally immersive Atmos audio, and featuring hours of previously unreleased on-set interviews and brand-new bonus features.

A Great, Gritty, Modern Neo-Noir
Joe Carnahan's best, this movie is a whole new level of aggressive, urban, cop film. Highly recommended.
