STEALING. CHEATING. KILLING.
WHO SAYS ROMANCE IS DEAD?
In 1993, action movie supremo Tony Scott teamed up with a hot new screenwriter named Quentin Tarantino to bring True Romance to the screen, one of the most beloved and widely-quoted films of the decade.
Elvis-worshipping comic book store employee Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) is minding his own business at a Sonny Chiba triple bill when Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette) walks into his life - and from then on, the two are inseparable. Within 24 hours, they're married and on the run after Clarence is forced to kill Alabama's possessive, psychopathic pimp. Driving a Cadillac across the country from Detroit to Hollywood, the newlyweds plan to sell off a suitcase full of stolen drugs to fund a new life for themselves... but little do they suspect that the cops and the Mafia are closing in on them. Will they escape and make their dream of a happy ending come true?
Breathtaking action set pieces and unforgettably snappy dialogue combine with a murderers' row of sensational performances from a stunning ensemble cast in Scott and Tarantino's blood-soaked, bullet-riddled valentine, finally restored in dazzling 4K with hours of brilliant bonus features.

Essential 90s cinema
This is one of my favorite Arrow releases. I got the Limited Deluxe Edition with the Steelbook. I wish they had given Inglourious Basterds the same treatment (still great tho). Incredible cast, great screenplay, always entertaining!

Joyful and Beautiful
The film speaks for itself, always has. I just want to comment on the quality of the 4K transfer. Arrow has made True Romance look vastly better than I have ever seen it look before, and better" not just in an objective sense according to the usual criteria that people use to evaluate the quality of a restoration, but also in terms of how they capture the energy and intensity of the film, from the flirty/romantic stuff in the beginning to gun fights toward the end and all the rest between. Just one example, a scene chosen almost at random. When Alabama and Clarence come out of the city hall building after getting married, you see a fantastic contrast of bright, vivid, saturated colors set against the dismal gray of Detroit: The red of Alabama's dress only very slightly darker than Clarence's red shit, the intense white of the snow patches on the steps behind them, the black of coats worn by people passing them or behind them, at least a few shades of orange ranging from pale to sunset-intense coming from artificial lighting in the building behind them, and all of this standing out in impressive detail against the dirty brown stains on the steps, concentrated in places but faded throughout. Fans of this movie know how much the environment and lighting inform the story and especially emotions of the characters, and Arrow has really made both come to life without embellishment or excessive tampering with the image. True Romance is joyful. You feel it, the cast and crew clearly felt it when they made it, and I get the impression that the Arrow folks who worked on this restoration felt it too. BTW some of the physical media included is fantastic as well. There's a beautiful poster and booklet and some cards that will appeal to collectors.
